Sunny

Although the mist was down almost to sea level when we left Tórshavn before 07:00, we emerged to sunshine after the tunnel through the high land of the island of Stremoy. From then on we were baked by the sun.

First we took the boat to Mykines, the most remote of the main islands, passing the amazing island of Tindhólmur, and its nearby sea stacks. After the expensive and compulsory guided tour of the huge puffin colony, we continued alone along the cliffs, seeing more puffins and fine scenery. Then we returned to the village for the famous and excellent fish soup at the café, before exploring more of the village. A cursed not bringing her swimming costume when we reached the dammed stream that was a popular swimming pool today.

After the boat took us back to Vágar island, we picked up the hire car I'd booked yesterday as a away of making the most of the good weekend, and drove to Gasaladur, the village famous for the waterfall into the sea (Múlafossur).

Back in Tórshavn, we refuelled on authentic and excellent Greek gyros sold as street food. Then we took the car over the nearby hill to Kirkjubøur, the site of the oldest continuously inhabited wooden house in the world (11th century), the oldest church in the Faroes (12th century), and the shell of St Magnus cathedral (13th century) - and not much else, except an excellent modern bus terminal building, where we're chilling before the drive back.
