Wipe Out

Up early today to take the car to Lloyds for its MOT and a change of brake fluid. Asked them to put new wipers on as well, as they’ve been a bit “smeary” recently. I also noticed that a little clip on the boot floor was damaged so enquired if it was possible to get a replacement. It looked like something I could easily fit myself so not bothered whether or not they had one in stock today. The bad news is that you can’t buy an individual clip, you can only buy a complete boot floor! I didn’t even bother asking how much that might be. I’ll get the Araldite out later and see if I can effect a repair. But it should have been a warning, as I found out when I came to pay the bill that the new wiper blades weighed in at a hefty fifty odd quid plus VAT!! I’m sure the last pair I bought were only £20 or so from Halfords. Mind you, that was many years ago and probably for something like a Ford Escort!
It used to be that I changed cars whenever the ashtray was full, so never had to bother about buying things like tyres or wiper blades. But I’m hanging on to this one - mainly because I can’t find anything better - and it’s now starting to cost me money. So far this year I’ve had new discs, new tyres and the wheels refurbished. And now new wipers. Thankfully, the car passed its MOT with flying colours so let’s hope that means no more expense for a while.
A visit to the gym this afternoon, followed by an early tea as we are off to see Elkie Brooks in concert at the Lancaster Grand tonight. Looking forward to hearing tunes from across her incredible 60 year career.
