The Book I Read
Mrs C loves her Kindle, whilst I have always preferred the traditional paperback or hardback book. But she recently read a book on her Kindle that she thought I would like - only problem was that due to her current subscription, it would only be available to read free of charge up to midnight tonight. Nothing for it then but to plunge into the whole new world of the electronic novel.
I enjoyed the book - a reasonably amusing murder mystery about various members of a local WI being bumped off by the local psychopath. Mrs C assured me her WI is not like that - about the same amount of cake and coach trips, but less deaths!
What I didn’t really enjoy was the physical process of reading the book. Having to wake the device up each time, not being able to easily flick forward to see how long until the end of a chapter and the limited amount of text available on each page were all irritations, but my main bugbear was not being able to easily flick back a few pages to check on something I’d read previously.
So I’ll continue to frequent my local library and treasure the joy of reading an actual physical book.
And, yes, I do appreciate the irony that this particular piece of prose will be read on many electronic devices. Maybe I should encourage you all to print it out to read it?
Maybe not.
