Venice - day 8

Sorry - backblipping again!  Fin really wanted to go to Milan, so although rather a trek from Venice we decided to make a day of it. We caught the 08:10 train out of Venice with 5 minutes to change in Verona.  Of course we hit a delay.  Thankfully the train to Milan was held for us, but it was packed to the rafters. We squeezed on, but people were sitting on floors, stairs, luggage racks etc! Then a huge swathe of people left the train at the first stop - phew!  We then checked our return tickets and found Fin had booked the return from a station outside the city! The app wouldn't let us amend it, but thankfully there is a good metro system.  We walked through part of the city as Fin wanted to see the Stock Exchange.  An impressive building, and they were just setting up a brand new and very expensive speedboat exhibit.  So hot by then that we opted for the metro to the Duomo. Queued for tickets and then in very quickly.  Architecturally stunning, the columns dwarfing those of us inside. The stained glass windows were beautiful, but I found the huge space rather dark and grey overall, and was glad to get out into the bright sunshine. We then went into the very upmarket shopping galleries opposite where I was dragged into Chane for Finl to get a present for my granddaughter Molly - lucky girl!  As a gift, the present was wrapped then boxed and several free samples added to the bag - I tried to acquire those without success!  :-0)). We then trawled the backstreets for a non-touristy restaurant for lunch. Success, and the lunch amongst lots of loud, raucous and amiable Italians was lovely.  We had time to kill, so walked to the wonderful park and castle.  So hot now that we had a quick look around the exterior and then found a bench in the shade!  Some lovely birds singing and musical entertainment in various parts of the grounds.  We found the metro and rode to Lambrate Station only to find that the train back to Verona had been cancelled! So, an hour to kill, and spent in a bar where I drank iced lemon tea to try to keep cool.Ay least we had seats on the way back, but it meant we didn't get back to Venice until 9pm. Shattered, but Fin still wanted to go out for a meal - groan!  Luckily we found somewhere, as where we stay the restaurants tend to shut quite early. A good day, but very hot and tiring!  Lots more photos in extras.
