Broadhead Skink
Gotta say, not my favorite critter in the yard. Thankfully they're harmless unless attacked or cornered/threatened in which case large or adult individuals will "deliver a powerful bite". Guess what I'm not going to do -- corner a large skink.
As you might expect they move very quickly, being a lizard, and their head turns red during mating season. They breed only once a year in late spring and are found only in the southeastern United States, the Coastal Plain of Georgia and South Carolina. I think this guy hopped a west-bound freight when nobody was looking.
