Heatwave

This is an image from  many years ago, when I took Jack and Ruth on a week's holiday to the Greek island of Lemnos.  This was long, long before they met their current partners and had their own children. 
It's the Aliki salt lake on the island; all water evaporates in the summer sun, leaving an extraordinary landscape - the layers of vegetation around the edge, the sea in the distance, the brilliant white of the salt expanses.
I found the image by accident today, while looking for something else.  The heat haze above the land has given it a slightly blurry look. Somehow I felt it suited this period of dry, dry heat that we're having at the moment.
