A short break

I’ve been away for a few days, staying in a camping pod in the South Downs. This was the view as I paused on an exploration of my surroundings on Monday evening, just after arrival.

The views across Sussex from the top of the Downs was stunning. I walked along the top to Devils Dyke, then retraced my steps, pausing to look down at my place of residence for the next few days - a dot at the base of the hills.

There were quite a number of people up in the hills that evening, enjoying the warm sunny evening. Later, after dinner I looked up from my pod to the hills and could see gatherings of people watching the golden sun set over the Sussex landscape. Below I sat quietly and listened to the birds in the nearby woodland calling as the light faded - a kestrel, thrush, swallows, house martins, greater spotted woodpecker and chiff chaffs being just a few of my hearings and sighting.
