An Orcadian Adventure (5)

Today we reached the heights, 150ft or so, up the inside of St Magnus Cathedral up past this very colourful but quite recent west window redesigned and fitted in 1987 as part of its 850th celebrations the image doesn’t really do it justice. We weren’t finished there but we carried on up ever steepening steps in narrow spiral staircases up to the parapet around the spire where the view over Kirkwall is unsurpassed and the first extra is looking down over the harbour where a sailing ship was trying out a mizzen sail as if it were years ago.

The second extra is our last sight of Stronsay from the ferry as we left in the morning, sea sickness pills were not on the menu but they never are in my case.
