A Stitch in Time
I attended the opening of an exhibit at our local historical society. It featured some lovely women's clothing from 1812. This is a linsey-woolsey (less often, woolsey-linsey or in Scots, wincey) capelet with stunning embroidery. I've added an extra of a crocheted lace capelet. I've always had a fascination with vintage, hand-made textiles. The workmanship, or I should say, the "workwomanship", is truly amazing and must have taken hours and hours under poor light to accomplish. It is no wonder women of that era had few clothes. When I bought my little farmhouse, built in 1851, it had no closets. No need for them back then!
