Pelican

The room we stayed in at the Tokeland Hotel is supposed to be haunted, but the only nocturnal visitor we had was a very cute ginger cat (see extra) that was looking for company when I went out for a pee.

After a fine breakfast - better than the food we had last night - we headed north, avoiding Aberdeen, and stopped for a wander at the Quinault Rain Forest Trailhead, (see extra). This was another place I'd visited before. Skipping two places that I'd seen and didn't think worth revisiting, we headed off to the day's main objective.

I visited the stunning Rialto Beach on my trip in October 2019, and was keen for A to experience it. It didn't disappoint, as the weather was great, the surf was big, and after the 2km beach walk, the rock outcrops, including the "hole in the wall", were just as impressive.

In Tokeland I felt sure that I'd seen a pelican, and didn't want to be too confident in case there aren't any within 1000 miles. But today we saw a dozen, fishing in the surf. We also saw a huge bird with fingered wingtips, a white head and tail that was almost certainly a bald eagle.

From Rialto Beach we drove to Port Angeles, where we eventually found somewhere serving decent food that wasn't full. Hence were eating quality pizza and drinking quality home brewed beer and cider, and making use of their WiFi.

For anyone who has enjoyed or suffered the "Twilight" books/films, we drove through Forks - which is an utter dump, with almost no reference to either!
