We’ve arrived!

We packed up the van in the pouring rain and moved on to what will be our first long stay in one place, what a relief!

We drove to Mike and Daveen’s home with a stop for lunch at a shopping mall called El Faro on the outskirts of Badajoz, Spain, close to the border with Portugal. We had a light lunch at a restaurant called Lizarran that served ‘pinchos’, which are small tasty snacks on sticks, and a small beer.

A tip I picked up from this visit was:
“Fuel is cheaper in Spain, than in Portugal, so fill up your car before you cross the border.”

After another drive, we arrived at Mike and Daveen’s Homestead. It feels almost like a second home to us now and it’s so good to be here! The sounds all around me of birds singing, sheep bleating, sheep bells ringing, cats meowing blend together to create a harmonious peaceful atmosphere.

First we had to spend some time getting some necessary work done. David had the job of setting the van set up, with Mike’s help, while I got the clothes washed and hung out on the line to dry (mostly Daveen, actually!). My pink Wellington boots had filled up with water last night so I put them upside down on a convenient wheelbarrow. Mike had to fix their water heater. After all this we sat down for a welcoming gin and tonic and a light supper.

Later on we all settled down to our lnternet activities of Blip, Duolingo and computer work with the two cats sitting on laps.
