Buried Treasure

When I was at University, I studied Old English and learned about Sutton Hoo ship burial and it became my first ever bucket list item. A number of years later, we visited the and I remember very much enjoying it. Since then, it has received lottery funding and had a makeover so we thought we were due another trip. We had a wonderful day, starting with a river view walk through glorious countryside. Then we had a guided tour around the burial site with an excellent guide. Lunch. Next a visit to Edith Pretty’s house which now houses an exhibition about the mound excavation, followed by the exhibition hall with actual and museum quality reproductions of the finds, including the fabulous mask of the buried King believed to be Raedwald of the East Saxons. Finally the shop then back to our accommodation. A fabulous day out!
