Schenna, with a wonderful castle.

It was a glorious morning, with magnificent blue skies and such clear air. I went up to Schenna on the bus and took lots of photos of the magnificent castle before exploring the village.

It was still early when I got back to Merano but the skies had clouded over. I decided to brave the high level path, the Tappeinerweg. My knee was steadier and I vowed to take it easy. There were lots of seats, lots of excuses to pause and appreciate.

I arrived at the path via the route from near the Prince’s Castle. It seemed a long haul but I went at a leisurely pace. At the top I wandered about half a kilometre out of the town before turning round to walk the full, very touristy, walk back to the Gunpowder Tower and the Gilf Promenade.

Spectacular. Quite busy, and with amazing views. It was still cloudy, pleasant for the walk.

I surprised myself. Lots of breaks to take it all in. I was really quite surprised and pleased.

I arrived near to where I’d had a lovely, true Italian meal yesterday. I fooled myself that it was fate and went back in. They recognised me and were lovely, and I was even treated to a limoncello.

Back in the hotel, I’d planned to watch the Giro d’Italia but quite rightly, the Italian channels were focussing on the horrific floods in Emilia Romagna and Le Marche. I’m now on EuroSport (with a German commentary)….
