The Prince’s Castle

The forecast wet day, but not as torrential as they’re having further south for the Giro.

So - definitely museums.

First of all the fabulous Medieval Prince’s Castle, built in its present form in the late 15th Century by Sigmund, Duke of Austria and Count of Tyrol.

It’s wonderfully atmospheric but a little hazardous -  climbing on the uneven stone to the top floor with no handrails etc.

Then the Palais Mamming Museum, a restored Baroque palace, which houses the Merano treasures. It’s very well presented and made me realise how little I knew about South Tyrol and its history.

It was still wet but not pouring so I headed up the Winter Promenade for a while, finding an Italian place for a snack - no speck or dumplings today.

Quite a varied trip.
