Wesley Cottage Trewint

A place we have passed so many times on the way down to West Penwith Cornwall.
Well today we decided on a detour to visit this cottage.
This is where John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, stayed on his first visit to Cornwall in 1743.
He was then a regular lodger in this tiny cottage and so DIgory Isbell, who was a stonemason, added a two room. ‘ prophet’s chamber ‘ to his cottage where Wesley both stayed and preached. The lower room is thought to be the smallest Methodist preaching place in the world.
The collage shows MrC outside of the cottage, the preaching room, and the New Chapel with a carving of JW above the door.
We were very grateful to the retired lady minister who told us all about the history of the cottage and also made us a cup of coffee.
As we were both brought up Methodists it had a special significance for us both.

The extra collage shows 15th century St Nonna’s Church, in the adjoining village of Altarnun. Called ‘The Cathedral of the Moors’.
One of the carved pew ends, and the 15th century packhorse bridge.

The other extra is the Welcome Pack from Carol. She managed to get a few bunches of daffodils too. The last of the season.

After another good journey it is great to be back. Weather cleared up when we arrived, and to us it feels warm!
So good to be back.
