Sally Mair - Loving life

Good enough to eat

Slept well last night. The normal bedding in this hotel has just a thick waffle effect sheet as a top cover. We realised last time though that we need to have the weight of a blanket as well in order to feel warm enough, so even in these warm temps that is what we have. No AC either at the moment which is most unusual for me.
After breakfast we got organised and took the dolmus back to Fethiye to the market. That's where my blips come from today. It's a huge market, and has two main areas with some overlap in the middle.
The first part is for the local farmers and small holding owners who bring in their produce for the local population. The vegetables look so healthy and the smell is wonderful. The watermelons were enormous. Lots of nuts in shell on sale too, especially walnuts and almonds. The strawberries were so luscious, natural ripening in the sun makes such a difference to the flavour. I was really surprised to see all the mulberries though, the ones on the trees here are nothing like ready to ripen yet. There were several cheesemakers around too.
The other part of the market has the same stuff as you see the world over for tourists. Imitation designer labels, clothing, shoes, bags - for some reason though, men's underpants seem to be the greatest draw!
The only thing we bought was a half kg of strawberries for 75p which we had with natural yogurt for our dessert tonight in the hotel. Deluded treated as good as they looked.
There were some heavy clouds in the sky this afternoon, there's been rain forecast on a couple of days over the time we are here. Hopefully any showers will be short lived.
