Not looking good

This bay tree was a birthday present to me from D#1 three years ago and until very recently was thriving. I trimmed it not long ago and neighbour Nancy took a couple of sprigs of leaves to use in recipes. She said she would look after it when I move, but now it's looking pretty dead.

The owl is nothing to do with me.
