Villa do Conde (Santa Clara) to Esposende (24km)

Thanks to a pair of killer mosquitos, we had another awful night! Undeterred we were up at 6.30am and set off straight after breakfast. Initially it was cloudy and great walking weather but soon the sun broke through and by lunchtime it was baking hot! We spent most of the day walking along the boardwalk by the sea following the Camino markers (lovely wild flowers) and passing Portuguese whitewashed churches. We met several fellow pilgrims en route from the Netherlands and the US and stopped off for what turned out to be mediocre lunch in a cafe. By the time we made it to Esposende, I was the walking wounded, complete with my first blister! Very tasty meal in a local restaurant, some ibuprofen and an early night will hopefully restore my equilibrium. If not it’s still a long way to Santiago!
