2023 Tuesday — Table Fellowship
In the introduction of her book, "Bread & Wine," Shauna Niequist expresses a thought that resonates with mine, "What's becoming clearer and clearer to me is that the most sacred moments, the ones in which I feel God's presence most profoundly, when I feel the goodness of the world most arrestingly, take place at the table. The particular alchemy of celebration and food, of connecting people and serving what I've made with my own hands, comes together as more than the sum of their parts. I love the sound and smells and textures of life at the table, hands passing bowls and forks clinking against plates, bread being torn, and the rhythm and energy of feeding and being fed."
In our front room this evening we enjoyed table fellowship with "Forever Friends" Robin & Cynthia . . . dinner, dessert, coffee, telling stories. We didn't light any candles, we didn't drink from fluted stemware. For the 35+ years we've known them our paths have not been side-by-side but rather crisscrossing occasionally, so now when we are together we do lots of filling-in the blanks; we learn about each other and the moments are so enjoyable.
They used to live in Riverside, now they reside in Yosemite Springs. Like us, they love the ocean's shoreline; like us, they have a serious affection for California's Central Coast, so the bulls-eye on their getaway target is often Cayucos. Like us, they enjoy food; like us they have a deep love for King Jesus.
This is not about food. In the morning I will wake feeling full, not from the meal; but full from the table fellowship, feeling very nourished, very satisfied, very content. And once again Mr. Fun & I will know that we've experienced a foretaste of Heaven.
We have an invitation, I hope you do too, to a future banquet, a Wedding Banquet, that’s going to be out of this world.
From our table to yours,
Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
and Chloe & Mitzi too!
