Eashing Bridge

I've always wanted to go to Eashing! There is a sign post to the village off the A3 south of Guildford and we are always flashing past, on our way to somewhere else. But today we had been ambling about in the car, looking for a "feature" to put in a newly refurbished area in the garden. We hadn't been successful(we couldn't agree!) so a pub lunch was called for. "Let's go to Eashing" I said.

There are just a few cottages in the village plus a good looking pub. I suspected when I saw the Farrow and Ball paintwork that it would be expensive, and it was! But we had an excellent lunch. Afterwards I wandered with my camera and found this medieval bridge over the River Wey. I have crossed other bridges like this over the Wey, at Tilford and Elstead. They were built by the monks of Waverley Abbey. Some have had parapets built but this one is near to its original form. It extends a long way to the left of the picture as the river braids here and the bridge crosses a marshy area.

Lovely to find an unspoilt place so near to home, and now when I pass that sign I shall know just what lies down that lane.
