West Bay Harbour, Dorset

Aka Broadchurch!

No one got much sleep last night, so, given the miserable weather outside (6 degrees and constant mizzle), we spent a quiet morning in the cottage, though I popped out for an hour on my own to visit the book sale at Beaminster museum and the local bakery to pick up a Lardy Cake; unfortunately they’d sold out of Dorset Apple Cake.

After lunch in the cottage we headed to the coast and to West Bay, for another trip down memory lane. The four windows on the left of the yellow building in the thumbnail belonged to the flat where Mum’s parents used to live (after leaving Beaminster), we spent many happy holidays here visiting my grandparents (1st extra shows the doorway that used to lead up to the flat).

We managed to arrive in a gap in the weather but it wasn’t long before the rain returned, along with the wind, so I was the only one mad enough to head out along the pier (4th extra). After just an hour, we returned to the car all feeling rather damp!

Driving back through Bridport, we stopped briefly at the church where Mum and Dad were married 65 years ago this August (last extra), then back to the cottage to light the log stove and dry out, watch the rugby, and for my brother to cook an early birthday feast for us all, steak for Dad, his favourite.

Thank you so much for all your good wishes, stars and hearts for yesterday’s blip. It’s actually Dad’s birthday tomorrow, and the source of all of the smoke turned out to be the pair of leather gloves left on top of the wood burner, that I managed to singe!
