Northamptonshire drama
Lots of day in the car today.
Down to Winchester for a meeting there and then back up to Daventry for a conference call - so I wasn't still down south and not the wrong side of Oxford on the A34 until late afternoon.
That meant a drive straight back after the first meeting and no time for lunch. I managed a couple of shots just outside Daventry and then back for the call.
The long journey down south was well worth it - I proved to the IT guys that something is seriously wrong with our network in Daventry.
Database queries that took a minute or so before we moved office from Warwick suddenly started taking 2 hours in Daventry. To compound the problem, the server was moved from Warwick down south a few weeks ago and introduced a number of other problems. No end of fault tickets would have any effect.
But, going to the main office campus near Winchester and more or less on the same network as the server I'm querying showed that the same query ran in 51 seconds. It's likely to not be a bandwidth problem but some kind of protocol issue somewhere in the network. So, anyone with any ideas about running SQL from Access to a remote IBM IS400 system running JDEdwards (very old!) across a Cisco network - they will be most welcome.
