South Georgia - Day Two

Two excellent landings today!

In the morning we visited St Andrews Bay - king penguins as far as you could see, fur seals and elephant seals, with a backdrop of mountains & glaciers. Just incredible.

We visited Grytviken in the afternoon. After hearing the Shackleton story so many times, it was hard to believe I was actually there. Picture postcard setting, blue skies and a huge leap in temperature ... but look closer and the grim history reveals - whaling ships with harpoons, processing equipment & tanks, bones and reminders of the slaughter that occured.

A bittersweet afternoon - we toasted 'The Boss' at his graveside, marvelled at the wildlife reclaiming the land, careful of the fur seal pups shuffling around our feet, visited the museum and sent postcards from the little post office.

There was a BBQ on deck that night, in Grytviken harbour - cold but fun!
