The Day The Football Died . . .

A long, long time from now and I will always remember when . . . I was in La Maison Restaurant, Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro, today and first saw the news on the tv screens that Pelé, o Rei de futebol, had died at the age of 82.  It has hit the country like the passing of Queen Elizabeth II in the UK.  

And watching the montage of his performances and amazing goals I don't think anyone can credibly dispute his status as the best of all time . . . the only player to have won three world cups. Beat that!

The cameras were out quickly to interview folk on the street about their memories and sense of loss.
