Nibbles

We have the roe deer seemingly still living in the corner of the field next to the garden. Very well hidden as a rule as the hawthorn hedge has been left unattended being hopelessly overgrown, so there are lots of little secluded spots ideal for holing up. Up until this last twelve months we never ever saw one so this is very special, lovely to see and a constant source of delight for me.

Helped by a southerly wind I was able by hiding the tripod behind the hedge to get some even closer shots of her.She still looks in pretty poor shape but maybe she is just moulting. There are no signs of any fawns nor of the stag I saw her with about a month ago which was shedding the velvet on it's antlers. She appears from hiding to come out to nibble the moist fresh grass and young shoots keeping a weather eye open and always on the alert. Tilly clambering over the tiny brick wall and under the chicken wire blew my cover somewhat but at least I'd managed a few shots.

Faffing with the tripod legs earlier changing the height, the whole thing with the big lens on, dropped onto my head while I was underneath it piercing my forehead with the corner of the base plate. There was blood everywhere! Great but before anyone says anything ..at least the camera was ok :))

As for the BBQ last night we ended up having a rather more warming cassoulet indoors out of the rain!
