waiting for the main event

I bivvied out last night in the woods - always hard to drag myself out in the cold and dark but as usual, I'm glad I made the effort. Looking up between the bare branches of the silver birch trees, I could see the stars, and they were shining magnificently in a clear sky. On the longest night of the year, I wasn't surprised to find that it was still dark when I woke up, so I crept back into the house and into bed with D for an extra hour or so until sunrise.

A more sociable day today - meeting up with friends and delivering cards. A wee walk just before sunset. Veggie haggis for tea with roasted carrots and sprouts, then back to the fireside.

Last day of work tomorrow before You Know What.

The photo is of a neighbourhood bonfire pile, ready for Hogmanay.
