Rainbow at Duddo Stone Circle

I had a lovely long wide-ranging conversation with Carole this morning. She is recovering from breaking a rib caused by slipping on a wet step and falling.

Mr C had to go to Homebase as he needed insulation for some pipes in the roof space and can do that while the ceiling is still down. We decided to go first to Duddo Stone Circle. We’d not been - it was only a 2 mile walk but there were heavy showers coming and going so it was far enough. Radiocarbon dating from charcoal in the soil packing one of the stones shows the circle was erected around 2000BCE. However the dating of bone fragments found there show it wasn’t used as a burial place till much later, about 1740 to 1660 BCE. It’s in a stunning location - although only on a very small hill it has views over the Tweed valley (the Tweed forms the border here) to the Lammermuirs in the north, the Eildons in the west and the Cheviots, with Yeavering Bell prominent, in the south. It make a nice little excursion for us - some days we are still quite Covid tired.
