Life is Good, Until It Isn’t
We probably won’t be having this perfect weather many more days this year. Hubby and I got up, he went to pick up my grocery order and I straightened the house. We started our outside work in the front flower bed. Hubby whacked the liriope and I cleaned up the mess. I picked all these tomatoes, some off the vine, others off the ground where they fell. We have that many more ripening on my kitchen window sill. It has been a good year for tomatoes. Then we moved to the formal garden. Hubby dug up the stubborn wild grape vines that kept getting tangled in my plants. I tried pulling up the liriope that was intertwined with my creeping phlox. I just don’t have the upper body strength so hubby took my place and I cleaned up one of the Siberian Iris beds. My daughter texted about a fight at three of the grand’s high school. Two of them were near the cafeteria when it happened. I guess one student lost teeth but the resource officer handcuffed the perpetrator pretty quickly. I am awake often at night worrying that my grands could easily be in the wrong place at the wrong time. We cannot keep them in a bubble. If only I had an extra 80 grand each year, I’d put all five in private school. But I do not. Next, Skylar called very upset saying she just needed to talk with me. Her boyfriend’s 18 year old brother was killed on a motorcycle last night. The other driver pulled out right in front of him in a large truck. It took me back many years when we got the word my 18 year old sister was killed on her bike. Such tragic avoidable loss of young lives. Hubby and I ate a quick lunch and he cut grass/shredded leaves on the garden paths while I planted 42 tulip bulbs. At some point, I got my 10,000 steps. Hubby has over 12,000. Looks like he will have to run the tractor/bagger over the lawn this week. This is two days’ worth of falling leaves. But the colors have been fantastic this year. Dinner is in the oven and our feet are up on the recliner. Take care folks. Hug your loved ones. Life is simply too short. Thanks for stopping by. “There is no fair in life and death. If it were, no good men would die young.”- Mitch Albom
