Mount of Transfiguration Church
Another long day starting with wake up call at 6.30. No change of hotel today thankfully! We went first to Tabgha where it is believed the feeding of the 5,000 took place. There were excavations here and they found the remains of a 5th century church with mosaics on the floor put up by Byzantines and since extended and rebuilt. It was a very peaceful place and the mosaics were remarkable. Sadly I have only 5 extra photos to use so will try to give you a flavour of what we see!
We then moved on to go up mount Tabor which is the mount of transfiguration! The coach was too big to get up the hill so we were taken up in smaller buses round a series of hairpin bends! The church at the top was designed by Antonio Berlucci on top of an ancient Byzantine church and a 12th century crusader church! This was the inside of the church! We had communion here in a chapel outside! Very special! The extra will be of the view down over the valley!
From there we returned down the mountain and went on to see the Jordan river in a beautiful place which for me was spoilt by the whole commercialsation.
Sorry for my lack of looking at your blips. Will try to catch up soon.
