A slice of Lesley's life

Anna and her staff

Anna found a splendid stick to be her staff* to help her climb a mountain...or the height of a mountain anyway. Beautiful sunny day and we headed off to Leith Hill, Surrey apparently the heighest point in the SE of England. The actual hill is 965ft high so back in the 18th Century a local landowner built an Gothic Tower which is 64ft high to take it over the minimum height for a mountain. It may or may not be true but regardless, the notion of an archetypal eccentric English gentleman appeals.

*Actually, I think she would have squealed with joy had actual staff and perhaps a sedan chair turned up halfway through. Though afterwards I think she was quietly pleased with herself.

Splendid restorative lunch at the nearby Volunteer Inn and then home for pizza and a baseball themed movie to get us in the mood for our NYC trip...less than three weeks...so definitely the start of the holiday season...

I do hope we all remember to go to school and work tomorrow.
