Up With the Lark
An hour after leaving the house in darkness, I was floating on my back in the sea watching as the sun crept up over the horizon in a blaze of glorious orange. Before that as the bus made its way slowly and haltingly through the east of the city, I could see the sky over the coast a fiery red, but by the time I put my foot on the sand the intense colour had all but disappeared.
It’s been another sunny calm day. It’s very often like that at this point of the year when the new students from other parts of the country think this is the kind of weather that we are used to in Edinburgh. They will be sadly disabused fairly soon.
