Between fen and mountains

Animation in the park

Today was the day of the annual chestnut festival along with a large car boot sale. There were stalls of local produce, a traditional local cobra band and, of course, roasted chestnuts. I called in at the park after ringing a quarter peal with our visiting ringers. They are some of the best around and Jeff, our tower captain, has been pushing me all weekend to try to ring methods beyond my comfort zone. Yesterday I rang a method for the first time on eight and then on 10 bells and today successfully completed Yorkshire Surprise Major. The quarter peal took 45 minutes. Having such a good band around me, capable of giving helpful nods and indications when I looked like I might get lost, made it possible for me to see my way around the ropes and complete the exercise.
