Poo strap??
One boy: excited;
up early ready to go.
Jumped, ran, rode and smiled :-D
It was Ben's second session at Making Momentum horse therapy today. He was so excited and ready to go, he's been telling people at school about it all week :-) It's such a lovely place. So supportive and staff are unfazed by what might be thrown (sometimes literally) at them! Ben rode lovely Louis and played some Polocross, after a few laps he said he was done. I was clear with him that coming off meant finishing, that Louis would get his big coat on and go back in the field to rest and Ben would move on to other activities.. but inevitably he became upset that he couldn't get back on the horse and he started to get himself wound up. I managed to distract him with running and jumping and pretending to be a horse(!) and staff suggested he take some treats to the field to feed the horses so we just about managed to avoid a meltdown. They promised next time he can stay on for the entire session, if he wants to. He definitely did well to hold it together. They took some pictures of us for their social media, I've included one in my extras as it made me smile. My main photo is of Ben just after he came off Louis and was putting his big blanket on, he had to lift the horse's tail through a 'poo strap' - I'm not sure that's an official horse riding piece of equipment but it made Ben laugh. Boys. Sigh.
Anyway, afterwards we had a nice family lunch, made some cookies and went for a walk near the river. Ben is now playing X-box games with Mr KCNQ2Haiku and generally looking forward to his next Making Momentum session in November.
