Street-wise roe deer
Claire is moving northward to Skellefteå, where her daughter Louise lives. She goes next week so this was a final Villanäs meet-up of the G&T home language group.
While food was being prepared I took Rusty out for a walk. A little earlier there had been two deer in Claire's garden and Rusty was a bit hyped up so I kept him on the lead until we were well into the forest. To no avail because as soon as he was off the lead he shot into the deep forest, back towards the house. For about 5 minutes nothing happened and then something big crashed through the forest just too far away for me to see more than flashes of red fur. Too big for Rusty so I guess it was the larger of the deer. Another minute or two of silence, then a short flash of Rusty a bit away running. Another wait and two somethings crashed through the forest 50 metres away. Rusty and the smaller of the deer? Finally he reappeared, tongue hanging out of his mouth and looking fairly tired. We walked on till we reached the river and I returned along the soggy river edge (I was wearing rubber boots). Rusty was happy in the water.I wasn't risking the deer infested forest again!! (Jan's blip shows us returning)
If you feel Rusty scaring/chasing the deer was a little cruel I can report that 30 minutes after we got home the deer were back in the garden nibbling the cabbages. Rusty threw himself at the window and hopped up and down, whining furiously. The deer looked, and returned to their cabbage chewing. Only when Clair opened the door and stepped out did they trot off, and even then they were moving into the next garden, rather than retreating to the forest. Street-wise roe deer.
