West Angle Bay

One of my "must see" destinations on this trip to Pembrokeshire was West Angle Bay, a place where I spent an idyllic childhood holiday about 60 years ago. The beach was just as I remembered, including the tidal pool where I was stung by a jellyfish.

Just outside the bay is Thorne Island, with a late 18th century fortress built to defend the port in Milford Haven from Napoleonic aggression. It has almost become a luxury hotel in recent years. Today it was being approached by an Irish Ferry. The power station, out of sight from the Bay itself, doesn't look too bad on a fine day.

Later we visited Bosherston, with its spectacular lily ponds, surrounded by a delightful wooded path, which leads to a spectacular beach at Broad Haven.

On our way back to base in Newport, we stopped in the Lower Town of Fishguard, to have a look at the harbour.
