Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

Finished!

Archie and I took a wander round the Meadows this morning. Lots of sit downs, as I was listening to my new audiobook ‘How to Kill Your Family’ by Bella Mackie. I actually had an oaty flat white at the caravan. I don’t usually stop there, but I will in future. They even sell doggie liver muffins, but Arch didn’t realise that.

We also sat and watched them taking the Big Top town (Extra) - very clever how it’s done. So that’s the end of the Festival, though the Book Festival is one more day. The hundreds of huge advertising posters, which must cost the performers a fortune, are being taken down. We found this huge one, which actually hid all the rubbish bags.

Apparently our striking bin men are at work tomorrow, and then go on strike again next week, but they’ll need more than a week to tidy up the city!! But I met the two old (er, younger than me…) chaps (identical twins) who tidy our local streets, and they were tidying up the loose litter and bagging it. And sweeping up the glass.

In the afternoon JR took Archie out for another big walk. I had an appointment (on the telephone) with my senior physiotherapist. She’d had the long awaited (by me) meeting with the neurologist, who has suggested that the next steps will be, as anticipated, an injection. EEk! But no need to worry about it yet - it’ll take about six months…

Just watching this year’s Tattoo. I must say, I’m not too keen on some of this modern stuff - too many individuals singing and soldiers dancing and rapping. I like marching pipe bands and proper dancing. And I miss Bill Paterson’s measured commentary.

I am definitely turning into an Old Grump…
