Tea with a view!

Tuesday
This morning, Roger and I drove north to meet up with Peter and Judy, my brother and sister-in-law, for a few days in Grange over Sands, just south of the Lake District, in a hotel/guest house which is a favourite of Peter and Judy’s, in a lovely setting overlooking Morecombe Bay. The drive took us about one and a half hours, and we arrived about 12.30. Peter and Judy’s drive, coming from just west of Sheffield, took them a bit longer, and while we waited for them, and having brought our things in, we enjoyed a cup of tea, sitting on the back patio area, enjoying this beautiful view over the lovely gardens, and beyond, through the trees a glimpse of Morecambe Bay, with the tide out. We enjoyed the same view from our rooms which were in the newer wing, each with a balcony. Once they arrived, we had lunch together in the same spot, then we went for a walk along the promenade. The town developed in the Victorian era from a small fishing village, and the arrival of the railway in 1857 made it a popular seaside resort on Morecambe Bay. He River Kent used to flow past the towns mile long promenade, but over time it’s course migrated south away from Grange, and the sands and mudflats became a grass meadow. We walked to the end of the promenade, then Peter and Judy returned to the hotel, while Roger and I continued on to explore the town, and returned through the park with its bandstand.
