Birthday - Mystery Tour

As part of her birthday gifts from Mrs S and I Sam received a ‘voucher’ for a Birthday Mystery Tour and today was the day.
Packed lunches and drinks into rucksacks along with power banks, cameras etc and we were off.
09:18 train, Falmouth to Truro - Truro to St Erth - St Erth to St Ives arriving at 11:00. We walked towards the harbour to find it was lifeboat day, lots going on including a lifeboat launch.
Postcards written over a coffee in the churchyard cafe, a book for Sam and we caught the 1:09 open topped bus going anti clockwise towards St Just.
We couldn’t get upstairs seats so sat at the front most seats on the lower deck I became a witness when a speeding car, cutting the corner clipped the bus which was stationary.
Having driven a bus been there done that!!

Sam had wanted to see St Just church and we had an hour in St Just to explore, I was surprised by the Naval memorabilia in the church.
We had noticed that the open topped buses going clockwise on the coastal route had virtually no one on the upper decks so we caught the open topped ‘Tinner’ bus direct to Penzance where we had coffee and cake and more postcards.
Almost first in the queue for the 4:30 bus back to St Ives we grabbed a seat each at the back, Porthcurno, Minack, Lands End, Sennen and all the places on the Cornwall coast that everyone reads about but never visits because you cannot park.
Great fun with Sam Megalith spotting, I do believe I won although it was close.
We arrived back in St Ives at 7:15 in time to see the lifeboat launched on a ‘for real’ shout.
A 12” pizza each and some garlic bread before catching the trains home. We arrived home a little after 11pm, tired but happy after a great day.

Next up the open topped bus from Newquay to Padstow I think.
