Down by the river
The dogs have become so dirty from their frequent dips in muddy pools on the moor that I decided they needed a bath so took them for one of their favourite walks down by the river. Since my last visit the wild flowers are beginning to romp away and this is one of them although I do not know what it is called. It grows close to the ground so hopefully someone will recognise it and give it a name. I did wonder if it was a wild hyacinth but having checked on Google I think not. You can see Cara in the background watching me hoping that I might stop blipping and throw her a stick to swim for.
I managed to accomplish quite a few gardening tasks this afternoon while the dogs dried out in the sunshine. The bottom tray of the wormery is now in use as potting compost and I sowed some more broad and runner beans. It was almost time to go in for a cuppa when the heavens opened and it started to hail.
Thanks to Kath Gordon I now have an ID for this plant - it is commonly known as Butterbur, also Bog Rhubarb or Devil's Hat. Its leaves are certainly like those of rhubarb and it is thriving being beside the water. According to Google it is also thought to have medicinal properties which can help migraine sufferers..
