Gibson's Cave and Summerhill Force

I took the day off today to go for a walk with my friend Chris, who had chosen a circular walk for us, taking in stretches of the River Tees and three waterfalls (although I'm sure we only saw two!).

My Blip is of the first one, Summerhill Force. The water has eroded the stone away beneath the waterfall to create Gibson's Cave, where, allegedly, a sixteenth century outlaw hid. Described as a "lovable rogue", his friends gave him food and clothing.

From there we walked about three miles up to the spectacular High Force. You can see the view from the top in my Extra.

Despite the fact we'd been out walking for three hours we were still chatting away when we went for lunch, going back to the Rose and Crown at Romaldkirk, where we ate last time, as all the local pubs appeared to be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays!
