Windfall Apples & A Cooling Dip, Aylesford
The heat has definitely ramped up today, Even when we went for our early morning run it was already touching 20C. So, after the usual weekly shop, it was a day for sitting in the shade with a cold glass of beer and a good book.
The windfall apples in today's shot are from our gnarled old tree in the back garden. For some reason this year it has produced a bountiful crop which I reckon we will have to harvest early next month. I thought windfall apples were an autumn thing but apparently it often happens more in the early season due to "June drop" which is a natural process where a tree disposes of extra fruit to give the apples that remain extra attention and a chance to grow larger.
The Cooling Dip part of the image is the front cover of a book called The Best Of Lens Culture. The wonderful shot is by a French photographer called Coco Amardeil. I included it because all I could think of was wouldn't it be nice to have a cooling dip. Unfortunately, we don't have a swimming pool so I just had to splash my face with cold water instead!
Tomorrow and Tuesday are supposed to touch or surpass 40C.I have only experienced heat like that once, many years ago, when I was in Athens. In that heat you can get very ill very quickly indeed if you are not careful.
Already my train company has issued a "Do Not Travel Unless Absolutely Necessary" but the only thing my boss has told me is that if I don't come in I have to take the day as holiday even though there is not much work to do - nice!
