Toonship on da Banks Broo

A damp and misty morning, this summer's norm.  It did clear by noon, and a sunny, warm afternoon.  Cloudy this evening, but hope is there, with pink skies at sunset.

Up early, and packed up after breakfast.  With the poor and breezy morning, plans for cave exploring came to a standstill.  Headed back to Scalloway.  Mam and dad popped by, mam showing off her new car.  Headed back with the house keys to the owner, and thank him for his generosity for letting us have the house for the weekend.  Nipped into Lerwick, had an ice-cream and then down to Laura's for a cuppa.  We had Brian's fresh haddocks for tea tonight, and then headed down for my shift in the shop.  Feet up now.

After a busy week in the airport, it's been a great weekend away from people.  One last walk around the abandoned township this morning.  Oddly the houses and outbuildings were built on the banks broo (cliff edge), on both sides.  Old legend has it that the bairns used to be tethered to the buildings, and you used to be able to see the old metal rings.  This surely wouldn't have been all day, and surely not for older bairns, but you can understand why if it did happen, it's a dangerous drop here.  Legand also had it, some of the houses were built above caves, and they would hear the rumbles below.  Would be wonderful to peek back in time, and see it all standing and daily life here.  Old buildings perched on the banks, West Ham, South Havera.
