Cool
It was hot in Edinburgh, so it was nice to spend a few hours in the cool of an airy church. We made it to see the concert in which our granddaughter was playing. She was pleased to see us, we got to spend some time with her and we enjoyed the concert very much. The orchestra was very good, then there was the choir and then a range of guitarists who formed several groups with drums and vocals. It was such a joy to watch all these young people getting the chance to experience all kinds of music and to play together. There was such enthusiasm, enjoyment, humour and best of all was the support and encouragement they gave to each other.
The church was Canongate Kirk on the Royal Mile. Obviously on the tourist map but I had never been before. There is a lot of historical interest in the Kirk and the Kirkyard. I bought some leaflets and will return one day. We did see one ‘special’ thing - the Royal Pew (see extra), the only place we were not allowed to sit. When members of the Royal Family attend the Kirk they use this front pew. Note the extra cushioning. It is a well known fact that those with Royal blood are much more sensitive than the rest of us - remember the story of the Princess and the Pea!
