While the south of Britain basks in sub Mediterranean temperatures, again, we north Britons have to make do with a monochrome drizzle and an unhelpful breeze making it feel a wee bit chilly. The open top tour buses are always being spruced up in the morning for their lucrative "hop on hop off " tours around the city. These tours are not popular with the residents of the New Town if they are unlucky enough to live on one of the routes - especially those near Robert Louis Stevenson's home and the adjacent Queen Street Gardens' ornamental lake .with tiny island. purported to be RLS's inspiration for Treasure Island.
