Over the Horizon

Ann Arbor

Walking the streets of Ann Arbor. Moving on from my home for the past two and a half years for one last look back. Taking it in slow and seeing so many things I used to miss when I was always speeding through town on my bike. Stopping in my favorite bookstores and coffee shops. Getting a hair cut and picking up some steaks to grill out for a barbeque on the way home.

My good friend Nick is leaving town tomorrow, on his way to the Bolivian Amazon of all places, to learn Machiguenga...seriously. Who knew linguistic anthropology could be so adventurous? We met living in Peru last summer and had many good times and adventures. I'll miss him, but have a feeling we'll be friends for life. We grilled out steaks and burgers, veggie kabobs and asparagus stalks. Made fresh mint mojitos and toasted marshmallows in the fire....needless to say, it was amazing!

I snapped this shot walking downtown. The first Borders bookstore (before they sold out and became a big chain) is here in downtown Ann Arbor. I always pass by this mural on the side of the building. Full view on the street, Edgar Allan Poe and Herman Hesse looking down on passer bys bedecked in blooming tulips. I love it!

Its time to move on, but I'm gonna miss this town.
