Northern Isles Day 3

A much more relaxed day. When we woke the mist was so thick we couldn’t even see the water we were parked beside, so we had a relaxed breakfast and then I made an Aubergine, mushroom, onion, tomato and chickpea curry in preparation for tonight.

When the mist lifted we headed back out to Gloup as a fellow Blipper advised us of a good walk there. Thank you FiFife! Instead of starting at Breckon as the link stated, we went to Gloup. We knew there was a suitable parking place for the van there, whereas Breckon’s might not have been. It also meant we could get the 2 miles on the road done first.

The walk was lovely once we got off the road and very well marked with signs and posts. The beach was very inviting but I’d not thought to take my swimming stuff. After the beach we followed the coast, investigating an old water mill on the way. There were loads of orchids and other pretty flowers as we walked over tussocky grass and boggy bits. When we headed up the hill to the old coastguard lookout point the rain started, so we only stopped to say hi to the model coastguard who had his binos round his neck and a phone in his hand but we didn’t join him for lunch. It was under a mile down to the beach at Gloup and up the hill to where the van was.

After changing out of our wet gear we ate our late sandwich in the van. We just made it to Burravoe for the last hookup. £15 into an honesty box. We haven’t been able to get any LPG so needed electricity for the fridge. The rain is now steady and constant. Luckily we got our walk!
