The Northern Isles Day 2

A busy day being a tourist. Yesterday’s lovely weather didn’t last though the wind did.

- Saxaford old RAF radar station - Mr C’s workplace 55 years ago
- Saxaford UK Space Port - a few fancy signs but nothing built yet
- Saxaford Gin Distillery beside the old gym where Mr C played squash - bought a bottle £36 - (after sampling a few.)
- Replica Viking longhouse and replica Viking ship which had attempted to said from Sweden to USA but only got as far as Haroldswick, Unst
- Hagdale Mill and chromite quarry with the only surviving horse driven crushing circle
- Found 4 different orchids but no Edmundson chickweed (only place in the world it grows)
- John Peel Traffic Island memorial stone - thanks Alph, blip for you - I hadn’t noticed it right beside Bobby’s bus shelter yesterday. (#3 daughter used to meet up with his daughter for illicit cider drinking and more in teenage years, so a nice find).
- A broch at Lund
- Remains of a Viking longhouse
- A standing stone
- Muness Castle, most northerly in British Isles
- Another standing stone

All before a late lunch then the ferry back over to Yell.

Memorial to fishermen lost in 1881 disaster - the same year as the Eyemouth one.

Now at a lovely quiet wild stop for the night at what appears to be a tombolo at Vatsetter.

Phew. Cup of tea now. What I thought was a bag of blueberry muffins I took from the freezer turns out to be wild garlic and sundried tomato savoury bites.
