I have always been interested to see what was behind the tall walls in the conservation village of Inveresk and was very impressed by the gardens which were open for charity today.  The thought and work that had gone into their development was considerable ranging from a very large terraced garden to a small one with several bonsai trees.  In spite of being on a hill above Musselburgh several had wells although they are no longer in use of course and some had ponds.  One former large kitchen garden had been recently been built upon to form an eco house with a sedum roof and ground heat is used to warm the building with solar panels in the garden behind which are raised beds of vegetables.  Apart from vegetables the garden has several fruit trees and an attractive Solardome with figs inside as well as many attractive areas of flowers – both wild and cultivated and little rill flowing into a pond.  I took hundreds of photos but have made collages of some of the plants.
