Taking a telling

It looks to me as if the adult goldfinch has had enough of its persistent chick. Probably nothing of the sort but the fledgling does seem to be told off. I was just delighted to see five goldfinches in the garden today including three chicks. I hope they stay around.

Today is our elder granddaughter's birthday. She is 7. For the first time she is having a birthday party with friends. She has been to a few birthday parties this year and really, really wanted one herself. There are a lot of children going to a local hall for games and food. This includes her three year old sister and cousin. Good luck with all that!

We are going to visit this afternoon to give her her gift. I imagine she will be exhausted with all the excitement so we won't stay long. It's hard to believe that seven years have gone by so quickly. She is growing up into a lovely girl, so kind and considerate and thoughtful of others.

The weather is autumnal with frequent showers and a bracing wind. I doubt we'll be in the garden but you never know.
