St Andrew’s Church, Burnham-on-Sea

After we’d dropped Sophie at school this morning, we headed to Burnham for a walk on the prom and breakfast.

The church of St Andrew sits at a very precarious angle just on the other side of the road from the beach and has been doing so since the 14th century. Apparently, the building subsided just a few years after it was built (what was that parable about the foolish man who built his house on sand?j and the tower has been leaning by almost a metre, or 2.4 degrees for over 600 years. By comparison, the Leaning Tower of Pisa leans by 5 degrees, so the church should be good for a few years yet!

We spent the afternoon baking for a visit from my sister and brother-in-law later in the week.
